Avin Ahmadi : oudist/ vocalist/ composer/ improviser
Vienna-based Iranian oud player, vocalist, composer, and improviser Avin Ahmadi was born in 2004 in Tehran and has been active across the European and international music scene since 2023.
With a strong foundation in Persian traditional music, Avin has shaped her own relationship with the oud rather than following established expectations. Growing up with an instrument that is often underestimated and narrowly defined, she challenges its inherited limitations and explores paths that had not been taken before. Her studies in jazz improvisation have added a subtle yet defining perspective to her approach, becoming an integral part of her artistic voice. Within this intercultural context, she has developed a clearly recognizable personal style, intertwining voice and oud into a singular expressive language.
In 2025, her solo project “Qayeq – قایق” was selected as part of NASOM (New Austrian Sound of Music), through which she brought the project to numerous stages internationally. Since then, Avin has toured extensively with “Qayeq” across Europe, West Asia, North Africa, and England, alongside her other projects, including her EP Liminal and duo collaborations with Lorenz Widauer and Victoria Kirillova.
Known for her solo and collaborative work, Avin brings an emotive, narrative approach to each performance. Shaped by her exposure to different musical cultures through collaborations with distinctive musicians worldwide, she shares a vivid, cross-cultural musical journey with her audiences.
Upcoming concert
May 31. Avin Ahmadi Solo at Houbara Festival (Cologne, Germany)
