Biography
by Dino Rekanović
Born into an artistic family, Avin’s love for music began when she was six years old, starting with playing the recorder flute. However, it wasn’t until she was nine years old that she discovered her true passion; the Oud.
In 2015, she was enrolled in Tehran’s music conservatory, dedicating six years of high school to study music and improve her skills on the Oud and in music as a whole. Guided by esteemed masters such as Negar Bouban, Hojat Farajian, and Yasamin Shahhosseini, Avin developed a deep affection for the instrument and made the decision to pursue music academically.
Following her graduation from the conservatory, Avin made the decision to relocate to Austria in order to further her musical journey. Currently studying Jazz improvisation at Anton Bruckner University in Linz, she is an active musician across the European and international music scene since 2023.
In 2025, Avin released her debut EP Liminal, joined by András Dés, Reza Tavakoli, and Kristian Lind.
In the same year, her solo project “Qayeq – قایق” was selected as part of NASOM (New Austrian Sound of Music), through which she brought the project to numerous stages internationally. Since then, Avin has toured extensively with “Qayeq” across Europe, West Asia, North Africa, and England, alongside her other projects, including her EP Liminal and duo collaborations with Lorenz Widauer and Victoria Kirillova.
However, besides perfroming with a vast variety of jazz ensembles, she was fortunate to regularly work with great musicians from various cultural backgrounds such as Brazil, West Africa and the Middle East. Therefore her inspiration arises from a colorful mix of styles, rhythms and languages.
